Raisin one week update

Housetraining –  Raisin has been accident free since the first day. Very reliable.

Crate-  Raisin crates easily and rests quietly in the crate. He also waits patiently for the door to open when I get home from work.

Leash-  Raisin is one of the best I’ve had on a leash. He stays close and we even get the famous “J” hook on the leash from time to time. This is a piece of cake !

Food/Eating- We’ve been feeding a grain free kibble and Raisin eats without complaint. He does eat slowly, so I feed him in his crate to be sure our resident “food bandit” doesn’t bother him. He’s not fussy and absolutely LOVES treats, and will sit nicely for one.

Socialization- Raisin gets along well with our resident dog, but they haven’t initiated play. That may come, and it may not. Raisin currently is a very relaxed dude, and simply prefers lounging on the couch to rough-housing. He has met other dogs and does well, but is not the type of dog that is an instant best buddy. He just co-exists peacefully. He has met quite a few people too, and has loved everyone. No hesitation or stranger danger with this guy.

Personality –Currently Raisin is a very relaxed, polite, quiet guy. He’s smart and loves to follow direction. He catches on to routines very quickly. He will sit on a lap for a short snuggle, but is just as happy to find a soft dog bed and just lounge. He loves people and has done well with my grandkids. There is no barking when someone knocks on the door, and there doesn’t seem to be any separation anxiety. He will follow me around the house, but I think he’s just curious about what’s going on. It’s not really about being with me 😁. He’s not really much of a flight risk either. My husband left the door open last night, and he just sat in the living room and waited for him to come back. No, this is not a good situation for a new foster in my house, but it’s good to know he’s not trying to escape either. Ha ha ha

Coat/Size Raisin is long and low, but very agile. His coat is super soft and silky and doesn’t seem to tangle or mat. I’ve seen very little shedding so far. He has the most beautify tail. I think he could very well be some sort of spaniel, although he doesn’t really have a strong prey drive. However, I do NOT see any corgi characteristics. There hasn't been any herding behaviors. It’s much more likely that he’s a doxi mix. If you adopt, it would be really cool to do a DNA test to find out his mix. He’s a question mark for sure

Raisin loves his foster Dad

Raisin's weekend

Raisin went on his first family camping trip and had a great time. He acclimated well to the RV and enjoys riding in the car. He met tons of people including my grandkids and loved everyone. He met several dogs as well. He did great with most. He let out a little growl at one or two, but warmed up to them a second later. Not sure what that was about, but it certainly wasn’t anything serious. He’s never had issues with our resident dog, Charlie. I think he was a little insecure over all the changes in his life.

Raisin received many compliments on how handsome he was. Most admirers agreed he looked like a Spaniel, but most thought he was mixed with Doxi. One fella was a life-long Doxi owner, and said Raisin was a Doxi “without a doubt” 😊  Who knows for sure? What we do know is that he is super sweet and a very easy keeper.

FYI……. Still no accidents….even in the RV…..pretty sure we can claim he is housetrained

Welcome Raisin

Raisin joined us on Wednesday night, and we have found him to be calm, quiet and smart

We picked him up the day after his neuter and he is currently on pain medication, so I'm sure we will see changes as he starts to feel more like himself.

So stay tuned, and check back often for updates.
