Congratulations Jackson

Jackson has found a wonderful young family with a human sister and brother.

How exciting to hear they already have plans for adventures together, that include camping and boating.

We have no doubt that Jackson's gonna love his new life.

We love you Jack Jack !!

Jackson the bird dog

What a beautiful morning for a walk.
Sun is shining.
Birds are singing.

And then.......

These geese had the nerve to land in Jackson's pond.
Right where he was walking.

Let's just say, that Jackson knew they were there.
He didn't bark, or act up in anyway.
But..... He certainly didn't want to let them out of his site.

Jackson one week update

I can’t believe it’s been a week since we picked up Jackson.

He has been one of the easiest fosters so far.

Housetraining – Still no accidents. Does his business on his morning and evening leashed walks. (We don’t have a fenced yard)

Crate- Crates easily and rests quietly. No crying or barking.

Leash-Loves his walks. Listen’s well to direction. No pulling.

Food/Eating-Eating grain-free kibble, with just a small spoon of wet food on top, and loving it.

Socialization-We have taken Jackson on car rides, visits to Grandma’s house and even camping. He takes everything in stride and loves the adventure. He does well in any situation and when meeting any new person or pup. He still lets out a short bark or two when excited, but far less than in the beginning. I think as he settles into a new life, and with a little coaching, the barking may stop altogether.

Personality – Happy and active, but lately we have witnessed Jackson “slowing his roll” a little. He seems much more content to lay quietly with a chew or rest on a lap than he was the first few days. He’s a super smart guy who has learned, sit and stay. Of course he may have already known them and just needed a refresher. I believe he probably knows a lot more and we will work on some new commands soon. My husband and I are not “lap dog” people. He grew up with hunting beagles, and I grew up with working cattle dogs, neither of which were allowed on laps, but it is just impossible to deny Jackson lap privileges. He just melts into a warm fluffy chocolate puddle when you pick him up. I think this is his calling. He turns totally chill and completely relaxed in someone’s arms.

Camping is hard work

Jackson goes to Devils Lake State Park

We can take this dog ANYWHERE!!

Waiting for lunch.

We decided to go camping this weekend.
Jackson is so adaptable.
It's like he's camped a thousand times before.

More pics to come.

Jackson goes for a car ride

We needed to run some errands, and since we both would be in the car, and since Jackson is such a well-adjusted guy, we decided we would try to take him along. Our instincts where correct. He is a GREAT car rider.

He even did well while we were in the parking lot of the hardware store waiting a LONG time for my husband to come out. Jackson did bark once or twice at people walking by in the beginning, but after a while he just looked out the window without making a sound.

Such a good boy!

Jackson first impressions

Keep in mind that Jackson has been with us for only a day or two. This is what we know now, but any and all of the below can change as he settles in

Housetraining – No accidents yet. Keeps his crate clean.
Crate- Crates easily with a treat. Does cry for a minute when we leave for work, but is resting nicely when we get home.
Leash- Loves to go for a walk. There is a little wander back and forth, and he does put his nose to the ground, but no pulling.
Food/Eating- Jackson likes to take his time eating. He will nibble and then play, and then go back for another nibble. So, I started feeding him in his crate to encourage him to finish his bowl, and THEN go play.
Socialization-This is where Jackson shines. He loves people, and he loves doggy friends. My husband’s band had a practice in our basement last night and he loved everyone that showed up at the door. He absolutely loves to “wrassle’ with our dog Charlie (which makes Charlie VERY happy). He also met the BIG chocolate lab from across the street with a wagging tail and an invite to play.
Personality – Jackson is very smart, and picked up on house routines immediately. Show him something once, and he has it. This is no couch potato, he is very busy, but not in a neurotic way. He loves to play with Charlie and the basket of toys. He will carry a toy around in his mouth. Toss it in the air and then pounce on it. It’s fun to watch him keep himself busy.  Jackson will let out a few load barks whenever someone comes to the door, or he notices something unusual out the window. But it is just a short “warning” and once he is sure all is safe, he settles down quickly.

Coat/Size- Jackson is about 12lbs, and we will try to get a measurement of his height soon. His fur is soft for a Schnauzer, and has a slight wave. So maybe there is a little something else mixed in. Maybe poodle ? He is a neat light black, or very dark grey color with a small patch of white on his chest. You need to look really close or you might miss the chest patch (very small). He has a short stubby tail (that wags constantly)
