I
can’t believe it’s been a week since we picked up Jackson.
He has
been one of the easiest fosters so far.
Housetraining – Still no accidents. Does his business
on his morning and evening leashed walks. (We don’t have a fenced yard)
Crate- Crates easily and rests quietly. No
crying or barking.
Leash-Loves his walks. Listen’s well to
direction. No pulling.
Food/Eating-Eating grain-free kibble, with just a
small spoon of wet food on top, and loving it.
Socialization-We have taken Jackson on car rides,
visits to Grandma’s house and even camping. He takes everything in stride and
loves the adventure. He does well in any situation and when meeting any new
person or pup. He still lets out a short bark or two when excited, but far less
than in the beginning. I think as he settles into a new life, and with a little
coaching, the barking may stop altogether.
Personality – Happy and active, but lately we have
witnessed Jackson “slowing his roll” a little. He seems much more content to
lay quietly with a chew or rest on a lap than he was the first few days. He’s a
super smart guy who has learned, sit and stay. Of course he may have already
known them and just needed a refresher. I believe he probably knows a lot more
and we will work on some new commands soon. My husband and I are not “lap dog”
people. He grew up with hunting beagles, and I grew up with working cattle
dogs, neither of which were allowed on laps, but it is just impossible to deny
Jackson lap privileges. He just melts into a warm fluffy chocolate puddle when
you pick him up. I think this is his calling. He turns totally chill and
completely relaxed in someone’s arms.
