Housetraining –
Perfect ! No accidents and working like clockwork. Very reliable.
Crate- Crates
easily and rests comfortably. Likes to have something to chew, like a Kong, pig
ear or other.
Leash-
Walks well on the leash however, even though I know she is physically feeling
much better, she still prefers a very slow stroll to a brisk walk. Charlie and
I are both going to be “chunky monkeys” if we don’t get her to quicken the pace
;-)
Food/Eating-
Eating grain free kibble with a little wet canned food stirred in and loving
it. There is no food aggression, and she is fed in the same room at the same
time as her foster brother without issue. She is not really into treats, but
they do work when it’s time to “kennel-up”
Socialization-Ruby
met two new dogs this week and even though she let out one or two load barks to
let me know that someone was coming, she greeted both newcomers with a tail wag
and a sniff. She also met a few humans at our front door, and absolutely loved
my son in law. Ruby also had her first car ride and did very well. She sat
quietly while moving, and was patient while we were in the parking lot waiting
for my husband to run into the hardware store.
Personality –
Gentle, quiet, and calm. She adapts to any situation without issue. That being
said, the humans around her need to be patient. This southern girl does
everything in her own time. She is not being stubborn, just methodical. For
example, when she is asked to go in her crate, I will throw in a treat and then
step back. Most dogs will bound in and gobble up the treat. Ruby will survey the
situation, stand and ponder a minute, then after about 30 seconds or so, she
will slowly walk into the crate. It took me a while to adjust to this, but once
I had her figured out, it is working quite well. A similar thing happens when
we call her to the door for a walk. I usually stand at the door for a good 30
seconds or so, before she finds her way over. It’s kinda cute actually. She is
such an easy girl to love. Steady and loyal.
Coat/Size-
I think Ruby’s former life has taken a toll on her coat, but it is starting to
fill in some. I have noticed some very light yellow or gold tones starting to develop.
If there is any shedding, it is very light. It hard to tell in my house,
because both she and Charlie have very similar coats, and Charlie does shed
some.
Oh, I almost forgot.
Last night we had a very exciting event at our house. Ruby asked Charlie to play.
No one was more surprised or happy than our Charlie. The “wrassling” continued
on and off right up until bed time. I think they both were worn out from all
the play, cause it was a very quiet night !!
